Sunset Music Festival

May 18, 2015

Growing up I listened to REO Speedwagon, Fleetwood Mac and Journey. Ok, I’ve said it.

Over the past 2 years, I’ve really come to love Electronic Dance Music (EDM).

I’ve learned that there are several genre’s of EDM from trance, to tribal, to house music.

During the recent Groove Cruise, I met EDM legend Darude (of Sandstorm fame) and several other DJ’s up close and personal and now I have an even greater appreciation of EDM.

Darude

I’m looking forward to attending the Sunset Music Festival in Tampa Memorial Day weekend and I will be reporting live from the event using #SMF2015.

I hope you follow along!

Cruise Radio

April 29, 2015

Doug

For over 5 years, I’ve known Doug Parker, host and producer of Cruise Radio.

We were working at a local Jacksonville radio station together when he walked up to me and told me he had just started a podcast about cruising.

I was honored to be one of his first guests on the show.

Fast forward to today.

Cruise Radio spans the globe by being broadcast on ITunes, the Stitcher Radio Network, the Overseas Radio Network and on the IHeartRadio Network.

Doug has tirelessly worked to bring his passion of cruising to the world and I’m honored to call him a very good friend.

If you love cruising, you will love Cruise Radio.

Update on the Carnival Fascination!

April 13, 2015

I took a tour of the Jacksonville-based Carnival Fascination and was happy to see the WiFi has been upgraded!

Check out my YouTube video here for all the details, then contact me to book a cruise!

Summer Cruises

April 8, 2015

Fascination
Traditionally, it’s more expensive to cruise during the summer months.

Considering that the kids are out of school, the cruise lines know they can jack up the prices, but if you’re a smart shopper, you can get a great deal.

The Carnival Fascination that leaves from my hometown of Jacksonville, Fl has 4 and 5 day cruises that are family friendly.

You can also choose the incredible Carnival Sunshine that is a newer ship and includes the FunShip 2.0 upgrades which leaves from Port Canaveral.

I would be happy to help you!

River Cruises

March 29, 2015

A friend of mine asked me about river cruises today, specifically Viking.

I replied that I didn’t have a clue.

Here’s a great review about Viking.

Florida Backyard!

March 23, 2015

As you know, Marty and I moved into our brand new Lennar home in late November and we LOVE IT.

Now that the warm weather is approaching, I’ve been shopping around for patio furniture for my backyard Sanctuary.

Yeah, I’ve looked at Lowes, Home Depot etc, but Florida Backyard is the best choice.

They are locally owned and operated!

It comes down to one word, and that’s quality.

Check them out online at http://www.flbackyard.com and tell Jeff that Scott Lara sent you.

You will thank me for it!

The Groove Cruise!

February 25, 2015

Hello my friends!

All I can say is wow.

For years I’ve been hearing about the Groove Cruise.

Groove

I was excited to be one of the first people to step on board the NCL Pearl on Jan 28th. The next thing you know, I saw Whet Travel Owner and founder of the Groove Cruise Jason Beukema walking nearby and he recognized me.

“Scott, bring it in here and give me a hug”, Jason said.

I was speechless that Jason recognized me and that he was so cool.

Jason

Over 2000 people were about to board the ship for Groove Cruise XI and he was the most relaxed guy I’ve probably ever met.

Later that morning, Jason told me that years ago, his family were on a cruise. Jason and his brother looked at the pool deck and basically said, “Hey, this is the perfect place for us and our friends to party!”

“What started as a group of 125 friends going on a cruise in 2004 has erupted in to the world’s largest fully charted dance music cruise experience. The Groove Cruise is geared towards those who love dance music and who live by the mantra to ‘Work Hard and Play Harder’. Join the world’s best dance music artists on massive amenity jammed cruise ships as we sail to exotic destinations. Enthusiasts come from all over the world for the music and to escape reality, and they return to reconnect with the amazing friends they have met from previous years.” (taken from http://thegroovecruise.com/miami/history-of-the-groove-cruise/ )

For the next 96 hours, I enjoyed incredible house music, met several of the DJ’s including Darude of Sandstorm fame, DJ Doc Brown and DJ’s Prok and Fitch.

Groove 2

I just don’t have the words to describe the Groove Cruise…the only ones I can use is “Family”, “Excitement” and “Can’t wait to go again next year.” I’ll be bringing my 28 year old son @ELTimLara.

For more information about the Groove Cruise, go to http://thegroovecruise.com/ and be sure to check out my DJ interviews here: http://youtu.be/oCJfCv7YJ1A

Special thanks to Jason, Rafi, Ryan and everyone at Whet Travel for a life changing experience on the Groove Cruise.

Thank you!

It was a great 2014!

Hello friends,

Thanks for checking out my blog over the last 12 months.

I can say that I had a great 2014 cruising!

Our 7 day Thanksgiving Cruise on the Holland America Line MS Westerdam

December 2, 2014

This is the second time Marty and I have enjoyed Thanksgiving on Holland America Line.

We spent the night before the cruise at the Hilton Garden Inn in Dania Beach.

I’ve learned that even though we live about a 6 hour drive from Port Everglades, bad things can happen on 95 South.

Some friends of ours left Jacksonville around noon (we left at about 4 pm) and they hit some HEAVY traffic.

A “wide-load” semi was going about 10 mph down I95 South and they were right behind it!

They couldn’t pass it because the wide-load took up both lanes!

Anyway, Marty and I left Duval county about 4 p.m. and made great time to our hotel.

After enjoying a great night’s rest and a full breakfast, our group of 30 people jumped on the free shuttle to the port.

We arrived about 11:15 a.m after a short 20 minute ride.

There wasn’t a line at check in and we sat in the waiting area for about 30 minutes before we boarded.

Next we dropped off our luggage in cabin 4076 (cat H obstructed view) and then headed down to the Vista dining room for our Mariners Luncheon.

I always choose the Reuben sandwich and I can’t remember what Marty ate!

Our 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise was mostly sunny, a little bit windy but VERY enjoyable.

Oh. The first night of the cruise I could hear the lifeboat right outside of our large window squeaking LOUDLY!

I called the front desk the next morning and it was fixed immediately!

Our first port of call was Grand Turk.

Marty and I met a very nice couple with their two teenage kids from Louisiana who were from the Carnival Breeze at the pool at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville.

Next stop was San Juan where we took a $10 per person bus tour of the city. We’ve done that before, but hey, for the price, you can’t beat it!

On to St Thomas. Yeah. We’ve been there many times, but this time, Marty insisted we go see St John.

Thanks to my good friend Doug Parker of Cruise Radio, I was able to get us to Trunk Bay on St. John at a fraction of the cost of a shore excursion!

You can check out his article here: http://cruiseradio.net/getting-trunk-bay-cruise-ship/

Marty and I had a great time and enjoyed lunch on St. John at the High Tide Bar and Seafood Grill.

You can check them out right here: http://www.hightidevi.com/

Thanksgiving dinner on the Westerdam was great. Incredible service, amazing food and the best part of it…no cooking or cleaning up!

Our next stop was Half Moon Cay and we had a great time.

Back to Port Everglades too soon.

Another great Thanksgiving vacation on Holland America Line.

Our upcoming pre cruise stay at the Hilton Garden Inn

November 17, 2014

Marty and I will be driving from Jacksonville to Ft Lauderdale within the next couple of days.

As always, we will be spending the night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Dania Beach, Fl. before we board the MS Westerdam on 11/22.

The short 15 minute drive from the Hilton Garden Inn in the hotel provided shuttle to the cruise port is a breeze.

We love the HGI for many reasons including the friendly staff, the immaculate rooms and the incredible FULL breakfast!

Remember to pack an overnight bag so you don’t have to dig out your stuff from your suitcases.

Here’ a quick list for your consideration:

Men

——

Deodorant, Shaving Cream, Razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, socks, overnight clothing, medication.

=====================================

Women

———

Deodorant, Shaving Cream, Razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, overnight clothing, medication and most importantly MAKEUP!

I hope this list is helpful.
